CAMBRIDGE YOUNG LEARNERS(YLE)

English exams for children between 7 and 12
Designed using content which has been adapted to a child’s needs.
Flexible exam dates.
3 parts (Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking)
Each participant receives a certificate.
3 levels: Starters, Movers and Flyers
A good mark in Movers is equivalent to level A1 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The highest level (Flyers) is equivalent to A2 level and is the same level as the Key English Test (KET)

KEY ENGLISH TEST(KET)

This exam is A2 level in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. At this stage, the candidates must be able to:
Understand frequently used expressions when talking about day-to-day life (for example, information on family and friends, work, shopping, surrounding, etc)
Make themselves understood in simple, routine situations, limited to exchanging information on topic they are familiar with.
Use simple words to talk about where they are from, their education, surroundings and other topics related to their immediate environment.
KET assesses Reading, Listening and Speaking skills, and is made up of three parts:
Reading and Writing
Listening
Speaking

PRELIMINARY ENGLISH TEST(PET)

This exam corresponds to B1 level in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. At this level, the candidates must be able to: Understand the essential points of normal speech and understand conversations on topics known to the candidates, such as work, school, hobbies and interests, etc.
Know how to communicate in most situations that could arise when travelling.
Express themselves simply and coherently on topics and personal interests. The candidates are able to talk about experiences and personal events, and describe their dreams, hopes and aims. They must also be able to explain their plans and justify opinions.

FIRST CERTIFICATE (F.C.E.)

Es el examen que más demanda ha tenido hasta ahora entre los distintos exámenes ofrecidos por la Universidad de Cambridge. Tiene mucha aceptación en el mundo laboral español.
This is the exam that, up to now, has had the most demand among all the University of Cambridge exams. It is widely accepted in the Spanish job market.
This exam corresponds to level B2 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. At this level, the candidates must be able to: Understand the basic idea of texts on specific and abstract subjects and take an active part in a technical conversation within their fields of specialisation.
Communicate spontaneously and fluently with native speakers without too much effort for either party. Express themselves clearly and specifically on different topics.
Be able to talk about current affairs and to examine the advantages and disadvantages of specific situations.
The FCE is divided into five parts:

Listening
Use of English
Speaking

CERTIFICATE IN ADVANCED ENGLISH (C.A.E.)

This exam is of a level between the First Certificate and Proficiency. It proves an advanced level of English and is less academic than Proficiency.
This exam corresponds to the level C1 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. At this level, the candidates must be able to:Understand a wider variety of texts which are longer and linguistically more complex as well as recognising their more implicit meaning.
Express themselves fluently and spontaneously without having to make too much effort to be able to find the right expression.
Use the language flexibly and effectively in social, academic, professional and education situations.Produce clear texts, which are well structured and detailed, on more complex topics, and to be able to relate the topics using a variety of correct linguistic resources.
The CAE is recognized by many universities and faculties in the United Kingdom and other English-speaking countries as proof of a level of English which enables the student to attend further education courses. PROFICIENCY (C.P.E.):

The Proficiency represents a very high level of English. It is as well-known as the First Certificate and is recognised by British universities as a proof that the student’s level of English is good enough to be able to study at British universities. In the world of work, it proves a high level of communication in English.

TOEFL (Test of English as a foreign language)

If you have already decided to study at a US university, one important thing you should know about is that they demand that you sit an exam to show what level of English you have. Administered by the Educational Testing Services, its aim is to assess the level of English held by international students whose mother tongue is not English, and who want to study in the USA or Canada.
